Softball Minors (Player Pitch) Local Rules

  • Time Limit – 1 hour 30 minutes. Refer to Rules Across All Divisions concerning application of time limits.
  • Run rules apply for all Spring Season, Play-offs, Championship, and Fall Season games (15 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5)
  • Refer to Player Pool concerning any shortage of players for games
  • Refer to Scorekeeping concerning team responsibilities for keeping and reporting official scores

Offense

  • A continuous batting order will be used. Refer to Rules Across All Divisions concerning application of continuous batting order.
  • Each team may score a maximum of five (5) runs per inning through the 5th inning. The 6th inning and any extra innings are unlimited scoring.
  • Prior to Spring Break, no walks will be allowed. The batting team's Coach will call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher and will step in to pitch if a batter receives 4 called balls. The batter's current count will be erased and she will receive up to 5 pitches or three swinging strikes (whichever occurs first) from her coach. If the 5th pitch is fouled off, only one more pitch will be allowed. Batter will be out if they strike out or do not put one of the first 5 pitches in play, or if they foul off both the 5th and 6th pitches. During the Spring Season, after Spring Break and throughout the remainder of the season and play-offs, regular player-only pitching will be utilized.
  • NO stealing when the Coach Pitcher is pitching but stealing IS allowed on any player pitch once the ball reaches the batter.
  • A courtesy runner can be used for the catcher or pitcher if there are two outs when either are on base. The courtesy runner will be the player who recorded the last out. A player cannot be used as a courtesy runner more than one time per game for either the catcher or the pitcher.

Defense

  • Pitcher must wear a protective face mask.
  • Regular Season (does not apply during seasonal play-offs): No player shall be on the bench more than one (1) consecutive defensive inning. Exceptions may be made for injury, illness, fatigue, bathroom, etc. This defensive participation requirement does not apply for players arriving late to the game; however, players arriving late will still be added to the end of the batting line up.
  • Fall only: Ten (10) players may play used on defense. The 10th fielder must be stationed as a fourth outfielder. Outfielders must stay on grass and cannot play alongside infielder(s).
