Divisions of Play

Irmo Little League's divisions are designed so that players of similar age, grade, and skills play together, aiding in their development as ball players. As players advance through the divisions, additional skills are developed and play becomes more challenging and competitive. See Little League League Age Chart for age specific requirements for each division.

Baseball Divisions

  1. Rookie Ball (previously Tball) is the entry level coed division for players, league ages 4-5, who have never played baseball before.
  2. Single A (previously JCP) is an entry level coed division for players, league ages 5-6, who have played at least one season. Players learn to bat with the coach tossing to them, outs are not played and score is not kept.
  3. AA  (previously Coach Pitch Baseball)  is a developmental division for players league ages 6-8 who have played at least two seasons. Players will be pitched to by the coach, score will be kept and outs will be played. In order for a league age 6 year old to be considered for Minor Coach Pitch, they must attend evaluations or they will be dropped down into the JCP division.
  4. AAA  (previously Minors Player Pitch Baseball)  is a developmental division for players league ages 9-11. League age 8 players can be considered for Player Pitch but they must attend evaluations in order to be considered and be approved by the Board to participate. Any league age 8 that does not attend evaluations will automatically be dropped down into the AA Ball (Coach Pitch) division.
  5. Majors is a competitive division for players league ages 10-12. All league age 10 and 11 year olds who did not play in Majors Spring the year before must attend evaluations in order to be considered for the Majors division. If they do not attend evaluations, they will be dropped down into the AAA Ball division.
  6. 50/70  (previously Intermediate Baseball) is a competitive division for players league ages 11-12 (typically 5th and 6th graders). All league age 11 and 12 year olds who did not play in Intermediate Spring the year before must attend evaluations in order to be considered for the Intermediate division. If they do not attend evaluations, they will be dropped down into the Majors division. A league age 13 year old (if a current 6th grader) is eligible for Intermediate only with Board Approval.
  7. 60/90 (previously Juniors Baseball) is a competitive division for players league ages 12-14 who are NOT playing school ball. This division will not begin until after middle school tryouts have ended. If there are not enough players interested for this division, registrations will be moved into Senior League which will not start until May after the high school season ends. Any player who registers for Juniors and then is selected to a school ball team will automatically be moved into the Senior Division for play after their school season ends. School players are NOT allowed to play in the Junior Division. Players are to notify the league if they are selected to the school team so that they do not take a roster space away from another player.
  8. High School (previously Seniors Baseball) is a competitive but social division for players league ages 13-16. The Senior season will not start until the beginning of May after the school season ends.
